Description 2: Google is looking for an enthusiastic Engineer to join our Internal Applications team to provide technical support for a wide range of internal business applications. This opportunity requires experience supporting large scale, highly available transaction processing systems, preferably human resource, billing, financial or order entry applications. You will be responsible for responding to user inquiries, troubleshooting technical problems, and resolving data/configuration issues. This role will require multiple skills including, system administration, writing utility scripts, tracking down data change history through log analysis, running database queries, and a basic understanding the of the application code base. You will work closely with the Engineering, QA, and Product Management teams to collaborate on resolving problems, as well as prioritize bug fixes. You should be comfortable with multi-tasking, handling interrupts, and working with non-technical users. Exceptional troubleshooting skills, tenacity, and customer focus are essential for your success. This position will be located in our Phoenix office. Requirements: BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent, with relevant application and system support experience. Experience with UNIX/Linux systems including operational support, basic server setup and configuration, simple hardware troubleshooting and system-level security procedures. Experience in shell scripting (Bash/Perl/Python). Production support experience with Oracle or MySQL database servers, including user creation, monitoring of backups, basic queries and generation of data extracts. Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking skills and internet technologies such as HTTP/HTTPS. A track record of "getting things done" and ability to make pragmatic compromises to make progress. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests. Excellent documentation and process improvement skills.
